OVERSEAS MARKETS.
THE PRICE OF GOLD. £6 17/5 PER OUNCE. (Received 8.30 a.m.) LONDON, February 14. Gold is quoted at £6 17/3 per ounce. The following table shows recent fluctuations in the price of fine gold at per ounce:—
DAIRY PRODUCE. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency have this day received the following cable from their London office:—New Zealand butter at the beginning of the week was quoted at 67/ to OS/ per ewt. It has now recovered to 68/ to 09/, and the market is steady. Cheese: White 42/ to 43/(5 per cwt, coloured 43/ to 46/. Market is steady. Messrs. Joseph Nathan and Co. have received the following cable from their London principals, Messrs. Trengrouse and Nathan, Tooley Street, dated February 13:—Butter; GO/ per cwt. Cheese: White, 43/ to 44/ per cwt; coloured, 46/'. Both markets firm. SYDNEY WOOL SALES. SYDNEY, February 14. At the Sydney wool sales to-day 8182 bales were offered, and 7616 were sold. Also, 1139 bales were disposed of privately. The market generally ruled at the best point of the week. Short and finer descriptions suited French demand. Greasy Merino sold to 27 ! /id. The average price of the wool sold in Sydney last week was £23 11/ a bale, or 19.4(1 a lb. PRICES OF METALS. LONDON, February 13.
