FAIRFIELD DISTRICT.
WATER SUPPLY PROPOSAL POLL OF RATEPAYERS URGED. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) HAMILTON, this day. A proposal to reticulate the Fairfield district, which lies just outside the Claudelands boundary of Hamilton Borough, with water, was advanced at a large meeting of ratepayers by Mr. W. Newell, chairman of the Waikato County Council, last evening. Mr. A. A. Woodward, county engineer, explained that the estimated cost of the scheme was £1500, for which a special loan would be necessary, and a rate of 2d in the £ would be levied. Repayment would extend over 2o years, at 4,id per cent. Water would be drawn from the borough mains and controlled by the County Council. A resolution was carried urging the council to take a poll on the proposal.
