TRADE TREATIES. FRANCE AND BRITAIN. Agreements Dating As Far Back As 1826. SEQUEL TO QUOTA DISPUTE. (United P.A.—Electric Telegraph—Copyright) (Received 12.30 p.m.) PARIS, February 12. A French Note to Britain denounces the 1826 navigation treaty and the ISB2 commercial convention as from midnight, entailing expiry in three months. This is in order to demonstrate the Government's determination to maintain the principle of a new commercial treaty intact. Nevertheless, the Government offers to reopen negotiations. A British official wireless message says that Press messages from Paris state that the French Government's Note on the quota controversy will be delivered in London to-day. It is assured of a sympathetic examination, and "The Times" expresses the hope that its contents may bo such as to put an end to the unfortunate dispute. According to the present arrangements British retaliatory measures are due to have effect as from midnight tonight.
