MARRIED WOMEN.
FORCED TO RESIGN. To make more employment for men, a Cabinet decree in Vienna has been issued compelling women in the Austrian Civil Service to resign when they marry.
Women civil servants whose husbands are also in the service must resign at once unless their joint earnings are less than £10 a month. Women thus forced to resign will receive a small pension or gratuity, according to length of service. The decree has caused a sensation in Vienna, women's association and clubs declaring it to be a retrograde step in their fight for the equality of the sexes in industry.
