FASCIST AUSTRIA. Heimwehr Coup d'Etat Effected In the Tyrol. EXCESSES SUPPRESSED. iUnited P.A.—Electric Telegraph—Copyright) (Received 11.30 a.m.) LONDON,,February 6. The Vienna correspondent of the "Daily Mail" states that what is virtually a 'Fascist Government was established in the Tyrol under the Minister of Propaganda, Dr. Steidle. Although the Provincial Diet has not yet been formally dissolved Prince Starhemberg has formed a military council, and large reinforcements of Ileimjvehr are arriving.
Dr. Dollfuss, the Chancellor, telephoned asking the Governor of the Tyrol and the Hehmvehr chiefs to confer with him at Vienna.
The "Manchester Guardian" correspondent of Vienna says that the Heimwehr coup d'etat has undoubtedly brought Austria a step nearer to being a Fascist State, though so far the Heimwehr Council has not usurped normal Government.
It is merely acting as an advisory body, while Heimwehr excesses, such as maltreating and closing a Socialist editor with castor oil and occupying the Socialist newspaper offices, have been suppressed.
