TARIFF REVISION.
Mr. J. C. Allum's reply to complaints regarding delay in the matter of tariff revision is timely and informative. There is, however, •one question that appears to bo generally overlooked, and that is what, in terms of the Ottawa agreement, is expected of New Zealand by way of tariff revision. Prom what 1 can gather all the other Dominions (Australia especially) have much higher existing protective duties, and the authorities at Home aro agreed that there is very little, to complain of so far as the present New Zealand tariff is concerned. When the Tariff Commission's report appears, I think it will be found that the Ottawa understanding will be •honoured without any great disturbance of our fiscal position and that the only disappointed ones will be a few perfectly honest but misguided farmers, -who will persist in fighting for a fallacy, and the small army of manufacturers' agents (Home, and foreign), who are looking for bigger percentage returns at the expense of the New Zealand producers.
