LOCAL BODIES.

MOUNT EDEN. ,?The Mount Eden Borough Council met last evening. The Mayor, Mr. T. McXab, presided. Completion of Drainage.—A recommendation was adopted that the foreman of works should submit a report on the cost of completing the drainage, either, by letting a contract or by the council doing the work with the assistance of 50 suitable relief workers. The intention in the latter alternative is to pay standard wages, under a scheme similar to one introduced by the Mount Albert Borough Council. Building Permits.—lt was reported that building permits valued at £3766 were issued in December, and permits to the value of £3935 in JanuarySupply of Water. —Consideration of an offer of the City Council to supply water at 1/ per 1000 gallons for 21 years was deferred, the Mayor stating that a deputation from the combined boroughs intended to bring the matter before the City Council. Tennis Club Deputation.—A deputation from the Nicholson Park Tennis Club waited upon the council and asked that their charges should be reduced. The council decided to reduce the charges by 10 per cent. HARBOUR BOARD.

The Auckland Harbour Board met yesterday afternoon, the chairman, Mr. T. B Clay, presiding.

Fog Signals.—A letter was received from the Minister of Marine stating that the Government had not lost sight of the necessity for radio fog-signal construction on the New Zealand coast, and that arrangements were in hand for carrying out experimental -work to ascertain ■ the suitability of various suggested locations. The letter was received, but the chairman said the board would not allow the Marine Department to become lax in the matter. Plan Approved.—A survey plan of the lands affected by the proposed reclamation to give access between Rugby and Rawene Roads, in the Birkenhead borough, was submitted by the Birkenhead Borough Council and approved. Traffic Assistants.—A request by the Union S.S. Co.'that the board should not make a charge for overtime of traffic assistants in attendance on mail steamers, was referred to the board in committee.
