Mr. P. Harris has joined the staff of Sou tli Island Motors, Ltd. Mr. V. J. Lanier left for "Wellington by the Limited last evening. Sir William and Lady Perry, of Mastcrton, are at the Grand Hotel. Professor P. E. Alexander, director of Lincoln Agricultural College, is at Hotel Cargen. Mr. George Mills, Mayor of Birkenhead, has returned from a seaside holiday. ( Mr. and Mrs. P. H. Dick, of Tuturau, Southland, are in Auckland for the Royal Show. Mr. G. B. Hcwson, deputy-Mayor of Birkenhead, has returned from a holiday at Matakana. Mr. J. P. Quinn, Commissioner of Crown Lands, Napier, is spending a holiday in Auckland. Mr. TV. J. Hobson, who has been on a business trip to America, returned by the Maunganui on Monday. Dr. G. B. Pierce, of New York, who visits New Zealand every year for tho deep-sea lishing, is at Hotel Cargen. Mr. E. M. North, of Ominii, Otago, president of the New Zealand Friesian Association, is in Auckland for the Boyal- Show. Mr. T. O. Bishop, secretary of the New Zealand Employers' Federation, arrived from the South yesterday and is at Hotel Cargen. Mr. N. C. Morton, of Oakland, California, arrived at Wellington by the Maunganui on Monday on a fishing and sight-seeing tour. Mr. E. P. Davis has been appointed branch advertising manager and aviation officer in Christchurch for the Vacuum Oil Proprietary, Ltd.
Mr. D. MeDougall, M.P. for Mataura, and Mr. J. A. Hacphersoii, M.P. for Oamaru, left for the South by the Limited last evening. Mr. J. F. Ewen lias been appointed joint honorary treasurer in conjunction with Mr. E. A. Craig to the Auckland Provincial Patriotic and War Relief Association. Mr. Ewen fills the vacancy caused by the death of Sir Alfred Bankart. The Rev. Father Sehoonhof, who has been in charge of the Roman Catholic Maori Mission district, with headquarters at Kihikihi, and is now transferred to Te Puna, near Tauranga, left on Monday to take up his new duties. His successor at Kihikihi is the Rev. Father iHoogveld, who has been in charge of the Home Mission district at Omaio. eastern Bay of Plenty, for some time. His place at Omaio has been taken by the Rev. Father Hazelzet, of Rotorua.
