YACHTING.
SQUADRON'S REGATTA. FETE AT KAWAU ISLAND. The placid waters of Mansion House Bay presented a scene of animation on Saturday when the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron's regatta was held in ideal weather. For clays past Kawau had been looking forward to this event, [and the largo n timber of yachts, launches and arrivals by steamer indicated that interest in the regatta extended far afield. In the evening tlie annual Yacht Squadron's ball was held in the Mansion House, the prizes being presented by Captain Cosmo Graham, at the request of the commodore, Mr. J. H. Prater; Results:—Ladies' Race (seven miles).—Waitangi came in first and was the only boat to complete the course. The oilier 15 competitors failed, on account of poor visibility, to pick up the second mark oIT Algie's Point. Miss Kli/abcth Kiatui sailed Waitangi, and won the Davis Cup. Handicap Race, for Couniiiimlev liurthon's Barrel, seven miles.— Kotuku 1, Ladye Wilma 2, Kotiri 3, The order of finishing was: Tlielnm, Nga Toa, Haweiie, Prize, Victory, Moaim, Waioiie, Ida, Waitangi, Lady Wilma, Ilex, Kotiri, Mahaki, Kotuku, Janet and Medina. Naval Whalers' Handicap.—Dunedin "alley 1, Diomede whaler 2, Dunedin 3, Dioinede 4. Tlio winiiiiij; boat was sailed by Lieutenant Winch.
