Brown Abbey Surprises in Hurdles.—Hinuera to Tuaheahe.

The'animal mooting of (ho Matainata Pacing Club is being* held at Matainata this afternoon. The weather is fine, though dull, there is a good attendance, and the course is in excellent order. The Opening Event. The Hiker was the only defection from the Tirau Hack Hurdles, for which hub} Meteor, Unoco and Dark .Marble weie most in request. Ruby Meteor fell on the fiat after crossing the second hurdle. Brown Abbey led past the enclosure from Dark Marble, Unoco and Booklaw, with the others well back. Unoco took charge along the back from Dark Marble, Brown Abbey and Booklaw, and led till over the last fence, where Brown Abbey ran past him to win by four lengths, witii Dark Marble five lengths further back. Booklaw was fourth, with the others well back. The winner paid double figures. When Rubv Meteor fell, her rider, R. Miles, received slight concussion and a cut over the eye, but his injuries are stated not to be serious. The Favourite Unplaced. Record Flight was favourite 011 both machines for the Hinuera Handicap, for which Espoir, Square Acre, Swat Spear and the Musketoon mare were not saddled up. Tuaheahe • wafi next favoured, while Adeline and Hurskie also had support. Maori Jack, Record Flight and Royal Secret were the first to show out, but crossing the top La Poto, Record Flight and Adeline Were racing together, with Royal Secret, Maori Jack and Tuaheahe nex't>. There was no change entering the straight, where Tuaheahe came through and ,went 011 to win comfortably by three lengths from Huekie, who beat Adeline by three-quarters of a length. Then came En Tour, Royal Secret and Maori Jack. Hampton Park at Last. Sinking-Fund, Paganelli and Hampton Park were best supported on the win machine- for the Waharoa Handicap, for which all started, with the exception of Star Artist. Hampton Park, however, was the elect on the place machine, with Paganelli and Sinking Fund next best backed. Limex began best, being followed by Hampton Park, Paganelli, Sinking Fund and Prince Val. but across the top Hampton Park and Coronis were in front, attended by Limex, Sinking Fund and Paganelli. ■ There was 110 change into the straight, except that Hampton Park had drawn away slightly from Cofonis. Hampton Park continued I his run, and went 011 to win by.a length from Limex, who was half a length ahead of Coronis. Then came Sinking Fund, Paganelli and Prince Val.
