PROVINCIAL NEWS.

PUTARURU. A dance conducted in aid of relief funds at Putaruru this week, proved a great success. A large number of dancers were present, and the evening was enjoyed, by all. The music, supplied by Bragge' Revellers, was excellent. Mr. M. Heavey was master of ceremonies.

Mrs. D. D. Sneddon presided over the January meeting of the Putaruru branch of the Women's Division of the Fanners' Union. Next meeting there is to be a demonstration of basket-making With pine needles. There is also to be "a 'shilling bring and buy" stall. A prize is offered for the best collection of vegetables grown by one member. Good exhibits are expected. Putaruru rest room business was again discussed. It was announced that Mrs. Allen, of Tirau, had gone to conference. The roll call was "When I met my husband." Much amusement was caueed by this item. Mesdamee Lord, Reid and Bahna wero hostesses for the afternoon. " '

ROTORUA NOTES. >• ■■> Archdeacon F. W. Chatterton and Mrs. Chattcrton, The Vicarage, Hinemoa Street, have returned from a holidayspent at Ellerslie, Auckland. Miss A. Searell, matron of King George V. Hospital, has ■ returned from hdr annual leave spent in Auckland and the North. Dr. and Mrs. S. H. Hay and family, of Fen ton' Street, have returned from ■ a holiday at Mount Mau'ugainii. Mr. E. A. Robertson, of Pcreriki Street, and her niece, Miss E. Anoni, have left on a visit to Auckland, and also the northern cruise on board R.M.s. Wanganella. Mrs. F. C. Bunyard, of Arnohia Street, who has been visiting Auckland, has returned to Rotorua. Mrs. George French and Master D. French, of Pukuatua Street, have been spending a holiday touring the North and Bay of Islands. They are now staying in Auckland before returning to Rotorua at the end of the week. Mrs. L. Cupples and family, of Cambridge, are the guests of Mrs. Eric Robertson. Mr. and Mrs. F. S. Parlane and family have returned from a holiday spent at Mount Maunga-. nui. Captain and Mrs. Stanier are on a . holiday to the National Park, Tongariro. Miss M. . Andrews, matron of the Government Sanatorium, has left on R.M.s. Wanganella on the northern cruise. Mrs A. Hounsell, of Takapuna, ie on a visit to Rotorua. Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Douglas have returned to Rotorua and .have taken up their residence at Malfroy Road. Mr. and Mrs. Raven, of England, are visiting Rotorua, and are now the guests of Mrs. Boucher, at Lake Rotoiti. ■ Miss Appleby hae returned to Wellington from a holiday spent in. Rotorua. Mrs. Laurenson and Miss : Naomi I&urenson, of Tauranga, were the guests of Archdeacon and Mre. F. W. Chatterton during the week. Miss Betty Chambers was a Hamilton visitor to Rotorua during the week. Miss E. Stanton, of King George V. Hospital, has left on a visit to Auckland, and the northern cruise en R.M.s. Wanganella. Miss J. Barber, of Euera Street, spent the week-end at Mount Maunganui.
