OPENING BY MR. FORBES*.

PREPARATIONS IN HAND. The extra accommodation at the Epsom showgrounds necessitated by the record number of entries received for the forthcoming Royal Show is almost completed. The additional pens for cattle and pigs and the two new sheep pavilions arc expected to be finished by the end of the week.

The show, which will be held on February 8, !) and It), will be officially opened by the Prime Minister, the liight Hon. G. W. Forbes, on the second day, when a luncheon will be held in the grandstand of the Auckland Trotting Club. The president of the Auckland Agricultural and Pastoral Association. Air. iS. Austin Carr, will preside. Others who are expected to attend include Mr. M. J. Savage (Leader of the Opposition), the. Hon. C. E. Macmillan (Minister of Agriculture) and a number of other members of Parliament.

Stock exhibits from the South Island and the Wellington and Hawke's Bay provinces will arrive on Monday, those from Taranaki on Tuesday, and the remainder on Wednesday.

Mr. W. F, O'Donnell, managing secretary of the association, said yesterday that the large number of entries in the majority of classes, in many cases constituting a record, made the association confident that the show would be a euccess. They hoped to make it the most successful Royal Show that had ever been held in New Zealand. *
