The Olympian swimmer, Frances Bult, finished brilliantly last night to beat Jovce Cooper and retain the Australian title, 100 yds free-style, on the concluding night of the swimming championships. Miss Bult's time clipped 3 2-5s off Rita Smith's Queensland record.

Witt came to light in the last event of the championship programme to win a title for Queensland, taking the 440 yds event after a thrilling race with Crawford.

The points in the Keiran Shield interstate contest for men were: —Victoria 3, Queensland and West Australia 1 each; arid in the Corbett Shield, for ladies, New South Wales 3, Victoria 1.

Theso contests will be continued at Sydney. In a handicap everit Claire Dennis equalled her own Australian record of I.IC 4-5 for the 100 yds breast-stroke.
