SUSPENDED IN MID-AIR.

CAB. ALMOST OVER BRIDGE

(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)

PALMERSTON N., this day

Skidding on the slippery surface of the Whirokino Bridge, across the Manawatu River, a heavy sedan car narrowly escaped falling into the river. The car crashed through' the railings near the middle of the bridge, and hung suspended in mid-air from the gear-box and back axle.

A launch and punts happened to be passing under the bridge at the time of the mishap, and the launchmen. helped to secure the car from falling into the river. The car contained a man and woman, who escaped injury, but who experienced an unenviable time in extricating themselves from their precarious position.
