LOCAL BODIES.

NEW LYNN. An ordinary meeting of the New Lynn Borough Council was held last evening. The Mayor, Mr. Geo. Lawson, presided, and other members present were:— Messrs. A. Jeffrey. A. Woolley, F. Carter, S. Hards and C. Drury. Lawson Park.—The formation of a football area on Lawson Park was reported upon by Mr. E. V. Blake, townplanning consultant. He stated that the work carried out had been somewhat slow, but what had been done had been kept well to line and level. The heaviest sections had been completed and as soon as the next cross-section was done mucn greater progress would be noticed. He recommended that all work be restricted to the excavation of the main area. In the meantime a programme of planting for the next season should be considered. The report was referred to the works committee. Prevention of Cruelty.—A circular letter was received from the S.P.C.A. relative to adequate facilities for the collection of strays, both dogs and cats, within the borough. The council was asked to state what it was prepared to do in formulating a feasible scheme. The council will reply that it is not able to submit a scheme, but will co-operate with the society in any scheme inaugurated by it.

Main Highways.—A recommendation was received from the Main Highw.-ys Board approving of the borough foreman's recommendations for improved drainage of the concrete pavement on the main highway within the borough. The work is estimated to cost £694 3/8, of which the council will contribute £173 10711.
