OFOTIKI. At a meeting of the Opotlkl Borough Council a letter was received from the local Unemployment Committee authorising the council's relief work supervisors to dispense with the services of any relief workers who were loafing or who made themselves unpleasant on the the works.

The Borough Council, which decided some months ago to discontinue paying a 6alary to the secretary of the local unemployment committee on the grounds that he was misrepresenting the actions of the couucil to the Unemployment Board, decided to resume payment of the borough's contribution, but at half the previous rate, owing to the fact that roost of the borough unemployed are now working in the county.

MATAMATA.

Mrs. R. J. Malsey has donated a ellvermounted oak shield to the Matamata A. and P. Association for competition among the Women's Institutes ot the district.

District Commissioner V. G. Southon. who has charge of the Matamata and Te Poi scouts, hopes to take a party ot local scouts over to Melbourne for the celebrations of the centenary. It is expected that several Matamata residents will go with the party. Mr. YV. Livingstone, of Matamata, is to judge the pedigree and fat sheep at the Clevedon Show on Saturday. The following teaching appointments are of interest to Matamata residents:— Miss H. M. Grigg. Turanga-o-moana; Mr. A. C. Dannefaerd, Omana; Mr. J. S. Gaston, Matamata primary; Miss B. M. Rolfe (Putarnru), Raglan; Mias K. M. Gallery, Ofcoroire; Miss A. K. Walker, Te Poi.
