WANGANUI HORSES.

W. RAYNER'S TEAM. BURNISH LOOKING WELL PLATEAU WELL FORWARD.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) WANGANUI, Tuesday. . W - J?- Johnston lias decided not to take Unollmere to Hawera, though the Grandcourt gelding is in excellent fettle after his trip to Trentham. Knollmere is being kept going in view of his engagements at Wanganui.

W. Rayner has his team of five in steady work again. Spiral and Burnish will not be called upon to race again until the Wellington autumn meeting, comes round, and in the meantime they are being allowed to take things easily. Burnish is looking nice and fresh, and :it is expected that the Pombal—Episode 'filly will be considerably improved by Easter, when she is to make another trip to Ellerslie. Spiral has shown his ability to run out a solid mile and a half, arid his trainer anticipates that the son of Limond will give a good -account of himself in the Great Northern St., Leger Stakes. Pomp looks hone the worse for his racing at I'rentham, and he is to race at the Taranaki meeting next week, when he will run in the sprint handicap on the first day and the Taranaki Stakes on the second. . •

The gelding Alcides, by Pombal— Admyra, was kicked rather badly lat Trentham and has a "leg" in consequence. However, his owner-trainer, Mr. L. G. Paul, is keeping him going in the hope that the gelding will be xeady to race at Wanganui. Akides ran well enough at Trentham to suggest that he will do Mr. Paul good service later on.

Canopy is making steady progress and the Limond—Pennon filly should be fairly well forward for the Wanganui meeting, the racing at which should improve her for the Wellington meeting. Canopy is a racy-looking filly and later on will probably prove that she has more than average speed. \

Plateau is reported to be hitting out well at Fordell after a brief let-up, and the Acre gelding is likely to run prominently at Wanganui. In addition to Plateau, F. Tilley has Porotiti, Farmer, Boon, Note Issue, Ruanui and Waipiro engaged at Wanganui.

Rust is to accompany Pomp on the trip to New Plymouth next week. The Lysander filly looks well and is hitting out freely. So faf she has not done any good in her races, but she has run fairly well.
