CHINESE CALENDAR.
Big Struggle to Introduce
Western Ways.
HARD TO CHANGE A NATION.
SHANGHAI, January 29
The Nanking Government is determined to abolish the Chinese lunar new year due next month, and establish the western calendar. The people, however are difficult to wean from a system centuries old and continue their daily and seasonal reckonings by the moon
cycles. * The introduction of modern motor transportation is also upsetting the rickshaw men, who are striking as a protest against buses in various places.
