PLUMS FROM 1/6 A CASE. BON CHRETIEN PEARS IN. Very heavy quantities of all classes of fruit came forward to-day, mainly due to yesterday being a holiday. A fair demand was experienced for peaches, pears, hothouse grapes, good quality dessert apples and apricots. Good quality lemons and plums were also well sought after. Nectarines sold at low rates and a poor demand was experienced for cooking apples.

Fruit. Quotations are as follow: — Apples: Albany Beauty, 3/ to G/6 a case; Gravenstein, choice coloured, 4/ to 6/6; others, 2/ to 3/; green cookers, 2/ to 3/. Pears: Williams Bon Chretien, 3/ to 0/6; windfalls and others, 1/ to 1/6. Apricots: 5/ to 9/. Peaches: Extra choice coloured, in trays, 4/ to 7/6; in cases, 2/ to 3/3. Nectarines: 3/ to 4/6 per case. Strawberries: Captain Cook, lid to 1/3 per chip; Marguerite, 9d to 1/; Helenslea Surprise/ lid to 1/1. Blackberries: 4d to 6%d. Plums: Purple King, 4/ to 6/6 per case; Sultan, 2/ to 4/; Burbank, 1/6 to 2/6; Satsuma, 2/6 to 4/; Angelina, 4/ to 5/6; Damsons. 5/ to 6/. Oranges: Califorman navel, 29/ to 32/. Lemons: Cured, 9/ to 11/; others, 4/ to 6/6. Raspberries: 5/3 to 6/ (tins extra). Grape fruit: Californian, 23/ to 30/ per case. Tomatoes: Outdoor, choice smooth, 2/ to 2/6: others, 1/6 to 2/; No. 2 and small, o%d to 1/. Bananas: 16/ to 23/6. Cape gooseberries: 3d to id per lb. Grapes: Hothouse, 6d to lid. Coconuts: 14/ per sack.

Vegetables. There was a fair quantity of vegetables in the markets to-day, with heavy supplies of pumpkins, marrow-B and rhubarb. There were also good supplies of potatoes, kumaras, onions, celery, cucumbers, carlots, parsnips and all vegetables in season. The demand was fair. •

Quotations are as follow: — Potatoes, 3/ to 5/ per bag; swedes. 1/6 to 3/; onions, 2/6 to 3/; kumaras, 2d to 2%d per lb; cabbages, 2/ to 5/ per sack; on benches, 1/ to 3/ per dozen; cauliflowers, on benches, 1/6 to 6/; pumpkins, 3/ to 5/6 per cwt; encumbers, 6d to 2/6 per dozen; carrots, 6d to 2/6; parsnips, 1/ to 1/2; beet, 3d to 6d; turnips, 3d to 4d; radish,'3d to 4d; spring onions, 6d to 9d per bundle; spinach, 9d to 1/ per dozen; green peas, 2/ to ">/ per bag; French beans, 1/ to 2/; marrows, 3d to 1/ per dozen; lettuce, 1/ to 3/ per case; celery, cooking, 6d to 9d per bundle; dessert, 1/3 to 2/; rhubarb, 6d to 1/6 per dozen.

Eggs and Butter. There has been no change in the market for eggs and quotations remain as under: — First grade hen eggs, 1/3% per dozen; B grade, 1/2%; C grade, S'-sd. First grade duck eggs, 1/2 Vt per dozen; B grade, l/l 1 /4; C grade, 1/0%. Farmers' butter, 6d to. 8d per lb.

Poultry. At to-day's auctions the supply of poultry was medium and the demand was keen. The prices paid remain level. Selling rates were as follow:— Cockerels: Heavy breeds, prime, 1/0 to 3/6 each; not prime,'6d up; light breeds, prime, 1/ to 2/; not prime, 6d up. Fat roosters: Heavy breeds, prime, 1/ to 2/; light breeds, Od to 1/3. Fat hens: Heavy breeds, 1/6 to 2/9; light breeds, Od to 1/9. Pullets: Heavy breeds, best, 3/6 to 5/6; smaller, 1/6 up; liglit breeds, best, 3/6 to 6/; smaller, 1/ up. Drakes: Young, prime, 1/6 to 2/6; smaller, 1/ up; old, 9d to 1/. Ducks: Young, 1/6 to 2/6; old, 9d to 1/.
