AMUSEMENTS.
ROXY AND TIVOLI. Air thrills abound in the pulse-stirring action of "Ace of Aces," a realistic account of the tragic career of a great war ace, and starring Richard Dix in the title role, which comes jointly with "Heroes For Sale" to the Roxy and Tivoli Theatres tomorrow. Squadrons of fighting planes zooming, twisting and darting about in the skv; sensational crashes of burning bullet-ridden ships disintegrating in midair; and aircraft warfare with gallant adversaries meeting in mortal combat above the clouds, offer many breath-taking aerial thrills seldom seen on the screen. Dix is seen in the colourful role of Lieut. Rex Thorne, ranking ace of the American Air Service, a bird of prey who stalks his victims with cruelty and cunning. At the height of his fame, with 42 victories to his credit, he regrets the death and destruction he lias wrought and brings his own career to a glorious conclusion risking death. Supporting the virile star in Ace of Aces" are Elizabeth Allan, Bill Cagney. Howard Wilson, Theodore Newton and Ralph Bellamy. Richard Barthelmess, in "Heroes For Sale," again has one of the poignant wistful roles that have made him loved by millions. As an idealistic boy who returns from conflict overseas to find hia world turned upside-down, he is at his best. Lovely Loretta Young plays opposite Barthelmess, while Aline MacMahon, Gordon Westcott, Robert Barrat, Berton Churchill and James Murray have supporting roles. William A. Wellman, who also directed "Frisco Jenny, and who, as perhaps no other director in Hollywood, understood the great spirit of th# late Wilson Mizner, brought "Heroes For bale to the screen, a worthy finale to the career of a great writer.
