VERSATILE" FARMS.

MR COATES ADVISES FARMERS

BENEFITS OF EXCHANGE RATES. Urging all dairy farmers to make their farms as "versatile" as possible, the Et. Hon. J. G. Coates, Minister of Finance, speaking at the Helensville Show, said that while it would be foolish to ear that the outlook for the dairy farmer at present was good, it nevertheless had to be faced courageously, and every effort should be made to get the British Government to fix a maximum on imports from foreign countries, and an assured quota for New Zealand.

Mr. Coatos said the position to-day was infinitely better than this time last year. The.exchange rate had come in for considerable metropolitan criticism, but its result was that £8,500,000 had been paid to exporters for the first 10J months of depreciated currency. "Our revenue is buoyant, and although we cannot avoid a deficit, it will be much less than we budgeted for."
