HAIG'S DIARY.
WIDOW'S WISH DECLINED. LONDON, January 18. The "News-Chronicle" reveals the fact that, in spite of the late Earl Haig's wish, expressed in his will, that his war diaries from 1910 to 1918 should be published, the trustees have refused to give Lady Haig permission to include them in a book of extracts from her husband's private papers which she had prepared. With these diaries omitted, tho publishers have refused to issue her book. Tho diaries were written up when Earl Haig was commander-in-chief, and were sent home daily to his wife. They reveal in meticulous detail affairs on the Western Front, the full story of his quarrel with French (afterwards the Earl of Ypres), difficulties with French generals, intrigues of politicians to remove Earl Haig from his command, I and conversations with the King and with front line soldiers.
