OPERATIONS AT MINE. EXTENDED REPORT. A brief telegraphed report of operations at the Wailil mine for the period ended November 25 has already appeared in the "Star." The more extended report of the superintendent, Mr. 11. W. Hopkins, Is now available as follows : — WAIHI AREA. No. 14 Level.—Martha lode: Driving cast from Gin north crosscut was commenced along the north wall, and advanced to 00ft. Assay value to 20ft was of little or no value, and from "0 to 80ft 21/9 per ton. No. 13 Level.—Empire lode, cast of No. 4 shaft deviation, west crosscut.: This drive is advanced to TlJft. Assay value during the period rangfd from 9/1 to 27/8 per ton, the width of quartz being about sft. No. 12 Level.—Royal lode : The east face was advanced to 394 ft. Assay value from 303 to 381 ft averaged 14/10 per ton. The face is about 22ft from eastern boundary. Driving will be continued into the Junction area. In the western drive widening was continued from 103 to 171 ft, the width taken being 91ft. . No. 11 (70ft) Sub-level.—Empire lode, east of Cod west crosscut: Driving was continued to 227 ft, where the lode split up. Average assay value from 175 to 227 ft Is 28/ per ton. The reef over this distance is about sft wide. No. 11 (38ft) Sub-level— Empire lode (vertical part), east of Kingsford north crosscut : A drive was commenced on this and advanced to 72ft. Assay value to 50ft Is 46/3 per ton. The reef is wider than |

the drive. No. 11 (70ft) Sub-level.—Edward lode: In the drive at 70ft down Snapper winze, the total distance south is now_ 30Jft. Average assay value to 303 ft is 27/9 per ton. No walls are seen. The north drive is out a total of 29ft, the average assay value over this length being 57/ per ton, Ino walls seen. _ , . No. 9 (86ft) Sub-level.—Empire lode, north section west of Feather winze : Driving was stopped at A stoping block is now in course of preparation extending from 16ft east to 64ft west of the winze. No. 6 Level.—A crosscut commencing at 124 ft west of No. 2 shaft along the Martha footwall gangway is being driven west with the object of intersecting the north branch of Martha lode. No. 5 Level.—North branch of Martha lode, west of Koycroft crosscut: This face has been advanced to 313 ft and the average width during the period was 21ft. After reducing abnormally high assays, the average assay value taken over the full width of the drive, i.e., sft. was 204/3 per ton. Martha lode, west of No. 2 shaft, new N.\v. crosscut: Driving was advanced to 443* ft. the reef at the face being wider than the drive. A short section of ISft. from 39to 410 ft, averaged 31/3 per ton. being enriched probably by a mixture of quartz and country about 4ft wide coming in from the south side at the 39oft point. No 4 Level. —North branch of Martha lode,'west of Gordon N.W. crosscut: Driving was resumed and carried to 131 ft. The width of quartz varied from II to o£ft of very good grade. Hooper rise, at Soft west, holed to the winze from No 3 level. The east face was advanced to 121J£t. At 112 ft the width of quartz is 2ft, assay value 22/ per ton. No 3 Level. —North branch of Martha lode, west of Wallace crosscut: A crosscut is in progress at 118 ft and 21£ ft has been driven to the north in country.

JUNCTION AREA. Wailii Company's No. 10 Level.—Dlrter lode, cast of Ulster south crosscut : Driving was continued to 83} ft, where it connected to an old open shrinkage block on the Royal lode. Average assay value from 6- to iStt 8 S&m ""s.s&'kWVr-*"* , se „ps nccting crosscut: Driving west on the leader at 250 ft was carried to o2£t, where calcitc replaced the quartz leader. At the 70ft a crosscut was commenced south and at end of period was out 2bft. At iwt quartz about 3ft wide was intersected, course 07 degrees (true), and dipping one in three north. Zinc blende and some galena is associated with the quartz Ihe assay value is 6/0 per ton. At 18ft in the crosscut a fault about 2ft wide comes in from the east side, course oo degrees (true), and dipping one in four north, llic crosscut is being continue^. Junction No. 7 I.evcl.-—Royal lode . The level has been widened preparatory to stonin"" from 200 to 279 ft west of Tso. 1 shaft S.E. crosscut, the average width taken being 12ft.
