A reply that so far as he knew there could be no truth in the possibility of an arrangement being made in Southern Chile to p How tho establishment of Japanese there was made to-day by Mr. E. Pn"can Smith, Chilian Consul for Australia and New Zealand, who is visiting Wellington. Mr. Smith remarked that it seemed to him that the recent cablegram could not amount to anything. Chile was in just about the same condition as New Zea-, land, having considerable unemployment, and he could not imagine immigration of any kind being started there.
