FATAL CAPSIZE.
AUCKLAND WOMAN'S DEATH. BENZINE CATCHES FIRE. - (From Our Own Correspondent.) WAIUKU, this day. On November 18 a motor car travelling to Waiulcu capsized and caught fire, and the wife of the driver, Edith May Cccil, of 9, Edgerley Avenue. Epsom, received injuries from which she died in the Auckland Hospital on November 24. The tragedy was recalled yesterday when the inquest concerning Mrs. Cecil's death was concluded before Mr. F. H. Levien, S.M. The woman's husband, Edgerton Burleigh Cecil, said that he was driving the car, a small model saloon, and that his wife was seated beside him in front. Descending Bloomfield's Hill, about a mile on the Auckland side of Waiuku, the car, which was travelling at a moderate pace, skidded in loose metal and overturned, coming to rest on its hood. The cap of the benzine tank, which was just in front of the windscreen, fell off, and there was a flash of flame as the benzine caught fire. Witness said he managed to open a door and release Mrs. Cecil on to the roadway. By that time she had been severely burned. Witness said he received burns on the hands and arms. The coroner returned a verdict that Mrs. Cecil's death was attributable to the accidental overturning of the car.
