BETTER PRICES.

HALFBRED FLEECES. SALE AT CHRISTCHURCH. CROSSBREDS GO SLOWLY. (By Telegraph.— Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. Halfbred fleece wool rose in price by from 2d to 3d per lb at the second Christcliurch wool sale to-day, compared with the rates at the first sale in December. Values for fine wools were about on a par with those of the Wellington sale, which was rccognised as the best sale to date this season. Crossbreds, and particularly the coarser types, were comparatively difficult to sell. Value# for them were about the same as at the first Christcliurch sale. The better prices for halfhreds represent an advance of from 10 to lo per cent ou the December rates. In view of the much larger proportion of fine wools in the catalogue, the average price per lb, -judged on the representative offering over the first four hours of the sale, is estimated at lOd, as compared with the actual average of 13.1 id at the December sale, an increase of 2.4 d and an improvement.of about £2 3/ per bale of 3131b. The average price per bale at the first sale was £1S 4/10. To-day it worked out at about £20 S/. The estimate of l(id per lb for to-day's sale is only .hid less than the Dominion average for the 1928-29 season. Account must be tf.ken, however, of the fact that the best wools of the Canterbury season were among to-day's offering and comprised a large proportion of it. Range of Prices.
