TRACK GALLOPS.

TRIALS AT ELLERSLIE. PREPARING FOR TAKAPUNA. MASTER BRIERLY AND PSYCHOLOGIST. The final gallops for the Takapuna meeting took place at Eilerslie this morning on th? course proper, the poles being 25ft out from the ra'.ts. The going was in firstclass order and several smart gallops were recorded, the best eifort being that of Psychologist, who was timed to run a mile in 1.42. Master Brierly also put up a first-class gallop over a round, while King Musk also impressed. Course Proper. Morehu and Hawthorn opened proceedings, running six furlongs in 1.19 3-5, the former finishing in front. Hope Lass assisted them over the List mile, which took 525. She was light up at the finish. The juveniles Overdue and High Star ran home from the three-furlong post in 40s. Overdue, on the outside, was doing the better of the pair at the finish. Kilmuir was let off with an easy task, striding over six furlongs in 1.26, ami Royal Appellant covered five furlongs in 1.5 4-5. He was running on nicely at the end. Gay Broney, with Uarn Dance to assist him over the last five furlongs, completed six furlongs in 1.19 3-5. He was going evenly throughout and could have improved on the time. Imamint and Puriri Park were associated in a gallop over five furlongs, running the distance in 1.4 4-5. There was little between them at the end, though Puriri Park impressed most. United was holding Wee Musk comfortably at the conclusion of a mile. He ran the first half in 52 3-ss, and the full distance in 1.45 3-5. Char Soug and Darma reeled off five furlongs in 1.6 2-5. Both these novices are on the improve. Courthaven and Ornamental worked over a mile, running the first half in 54 3-5s and completed the journey in 1.49 1-5. Courthaven held the lead at the finish. Over a similar distance Bright Flower finished in front of Zane Grey in 1.51 4-5.

The two-year-olds Seven Seas and Horotiu ran home from the half-mile post in 51 3-ss, finishing on terms. Brown Lap went behind them, registering about the same time. Timorous and Horowhenua, after running their first furlong in 14 l-ss, recorded 1.4 4-5 for five furlongs. Both worked well, and Horowhenua looks improved-after his race at Pukekohe. Mountain Breeze started off slowly from the six-furlong post, doing her last liali'mile in 535. The Wynyard Plate candidate. King Musk, accomplished a first-class gallop over six furlongs. He ran the first three in 37s and completed his task in 1.18 1-5. He carried a fair weight and was running on strongly at the end. Velociter and Caprice were seen in an initial sprint over three furlongs, which occupied 455. This pair have had little experience, but have nice action for youngsters, especially Caprice. The stable-mates Glenromney and Kelly, after running their first furlong in 12 l-ss, reeled off half a mile in 50 3-ss. They were together at the conclusion, both infusing plenty of dash into their efforts. „ The Takapuna Cup entrants, Master Brierly and Baroscope, worked over a round, accompanied by Jewel Girdle. The full distance took 2.6 1-5, the last seven furlongs being covered in 1.35 3-5, and the final six in 1.23 2-5. Master Brierly performed well, drawing clear of the other pair in the straight to finish several lengths in front. His effort will gain him friends for his race at the week-end. Baroscope also worked better than usual and Jewel Girdle's effort was pleasing for one of his class. Baragraph and Foreign Money were sent half a mile, and after traversing the first furlong in 12 2-ss, completed their task in 51 2-ss. Baragraph was a shade in front at the end. That good track galloper Psychologist was dispatched alone over a mile, putting up an attractive performance. He ran the first two furlongs in 23 3-ss, four furlongs in 49 4-ss, five in 1.1 3-5, and registered 1.42 for the full distance. This is one of the best performances seen at Ellerslie for a number of years over the distance and clearly indicates that Psychologist is back to his Tiesi form. I

Tahae Mea ran home from the half-mile post in 51 3-ss. This hack is on the improve. Alpinus, with a good weight up, worked over seven furlongs, covering the first four in 52 2-ss, and completed the gallop in 1.33 3-5. He did his work smoothly and was staying on at the end. On the No. 3 grass Glenrata did sti-ong work over a couple of rounds, running the last three furlongs in 39 4-ss. This hack has done well since he raced at Pukekohe. Solomon worked on the tan, being timed to run his last half-mile in 545. Riding Engagements. The following riding engagements are announced for Takapuna ou Saturday:— G. Jenkins, Morehu, Glenrata; T. Williams, Tahae Mea; E. Manson, Baroscope; R. Miles, Courthaven; C. Goulsbro, Master Norval; N. McKenzie, Gay Marigold; A. Murray, Daruia; R. McTavish, Gay Broncy; H. Long, Foreign Mouey. AT TAKANINI. The inside grass was available for fast •work at Takanini this morning, but there was little doing, as a number of horses will be given their final gallops for the Takapuna meeting to-morrow. All work was done the reverse way. High Crest ran three furlongs along the back in 38s, hitting out freely. Holly Lu gave Express and Nun Nicer, two lengths' start from the half-mile post and finished a length ahead of Nun Nicer, with Express two lengths away, running the distance in 50 3-ss. Rereatu was going easier than Thespis at the conclusion of six furlongs, which occupied 1.18. Both these horses are in good fettle for their engagements at Takapuna. Model Girl and Eldora were timed to run half a mile in 50 2-ss, finishing on terms, and Diversion did a similar task in 51s. MATAMATA RACING CLUB. Acceptances for all events for the Matamata Racing Club's annual meeting, to be held on February 3, close' with the secretary, Mr. B. C.
