CONTRACT BRIDGE.
WORLD OLYMPIC GAMES.
AUCKLAND SECTION TO PLAY.
The third annual world bridge "Olympic," in which 200,000 bridge enthusiasts are expected to participate, will be held on Tuesday evening, February 1. At precisely 8 o'clock, Greenwich time, bridge players in more than 50 countries will play the same 10 hands, prepared by a committee of international bridge experts. People speaking 20 different tongues, meeting in 1000° groups circling the globe, will compete in one universal "language '— contract bridge. All participants will be striving to win one of the famous Olympic trophies of which there are two sets. The trophies were made at a cost of £2000 each. The winners will be the pairs playing the 16 hands nearest to the set by the Olympic committee of the National Bridge Association for each hand. The committee searched the world for bridge hands suitable for the contest. New Zealand will be represented by approximately 100 players in the various centres. Auckland players, Messrs. V. J. Parkinson, C. M. Tucker, C. BruceSmith and W. G. Watkins, were the winners of the New Zealand zone last year. Mr. Parkinson is in charge of the Auckland arrangements. There were 100,000 players in the last tournament, in which Norway won first prize.
