AUCKLAND CHAMPIONSHIP A Late Start. — Sawdust in Use.—Player in Bare Feet. The Auckland provincial lawn tennis championships were resumed to-day the seniors at Stanley Street, intermediates and juniors at Parnell. Not until half-past ten were any of the Stanley courts playable, and only then by the liberal use of sawdust. After a few strokes one player abandoned his shoes and played in tyire feet. TM surface was very slippery and it was hard to retrieve even simple shots or to get foot work correct for any shot at all. Shoe nets were not allowed, owing to the damage done to the grass. As the morning advanced, however, the courts dried considerably.
