MODEL SANDMILL.

You can have a great flea I of fun with this working sandmill, and it is quite easy to make if you follow these directions carefully. The frame must first be made of thin wood or stout card, and should be about ten inches high. It is mounted on a base of thick, cardboard, and the two quarter-inch holes are bored about four inches from the top. Next cut a piece of card, bend it to a "V" shape to make the two sides of a sloping roof, and then stick it to the top of the frame. To make the wheel: The sandwheel is made by cutting two circles of card, each about four and a half inches across, and each with a small hole in the centre. Between these six matchbox trays must be pasted, as the diagram shows—each facing the same way and at equal distances apart.

Place tlie wheel inside, tho frame, and tlion pass a wooden meat skewer through the four holes. Gum the Wheel to the skewer so that tliey both turn together. Now make tho vanes: Next cut the vanes from a piece of stiff paper, seven inches square, and pin them to one end of the skewer with a drawing pin. Mark the hopper diagram on a piece of_ card, making the sides of each triangle measure three inches. Fold along the dotted lines, and gum the tab in place to make a pyramid. Cut a small hole at tho point, and then stick it to one side of tlie roof so that the hole comes directly above the tray in the wheel. How to work your model: To work the model lill the hopper with silver sand—you can buy quite a lot for a penny—and as it runs through the hole it fills'the trays of the wheel one after the other, and "so turns the vanes. Place a tray under the wheel to catch the sand which the revolving trays will throw out, and uf.c the same .sand again and agai>-
