So bulky is book production under the Braille system that an "intermediate size" Bible in Braille occupies 74 volumes and weighs about ljcwt. The edition was specially prepared by the National Institute for the Blind to enable a blind person to carry one volume "comfortably and unobtrusively." To "house" a copy of this Braille Bible a reader must provide 10,164 cubic inches of_ space - enough to accommodate 847 copies of an ordinary Bible.
