OBITUARY.

MRS. GEORGE REID,

A private radio message from Pago Pago announces the death of Mrs. Reid, wile of Mr. George Reid, of the trading firm of Nelson, Reid and Co. Mrs. Reid was formerly Miss Latatie, her father being a French settler of Western Samoa. A daughter of Mrs. Reid has been attending school at Auckland, but was at home on holiday when her mother died.

MOTHER MARY ST. CLOTILDE,

The death took place at Morrinsville Convent of Mother Mary St. Clotildc, who was born at Napier 57 years ago. She was educated at Napier Convent, entered the mission of the Lady of Compassion at Christchurch, and afterwards taught in convent schools at Christchurch, Pukekohe, Opotiki, Opunake and Hamilton. A year ago she was transferred to Morrinsville. MR. WILLIAM OSBORNE. A former well-known resident of the Glen Murray district, Mr. William Osborne, of Spring Street, Onehunga, died at Putaruru. lie was born at Warrnainbool, Victoria, 77 years ago, and came to settle in Glen Murray in 1893. He married the oldest daughter of the late Mr. John Shaw, of Glen Murray. They afterwards lived at Opuatia. farming until 1924, when they retired to Onehunga. Deceased is survived by Mrs. Osborne and the following children: Mr. W. J. Osborne (Remuera), Mrs. C. Pearson (Putaruru), Mrs. W. Mead (Raetihi) and Miss G. Osborne.

MRS. MIRIAM GIBBS. Mrs. Miriam Gibbs, who died at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Weatherall, at Hamilton, Newcastle, New South Wales, in hei* ninetieth year, came to New Zealand with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lane, in the ship Persia, in 1860. The family settled at Kaeo, North Auckland, where. Miss Lane was married to Mr. Richard H. Gibbs. She was early left a widow by the accidental drowning of her husband in Whangaroa Harbour. With four children she manifested the indomitable courage of the early settlers and continued Tier husband's business of country etore and post office at Kaeo till 1888, when she retired. She leaves three sons—Messrs. R. S. Gibbs (Christchurch), P. W. Gibbs (Mangere) and Major Edward Gibbs (Salvation Army, Wellington)—and one daughter—Mrs. Caroline Weatlierall (Newcastle, New South Wales). There arc fifteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. MR. WATKIN ROBINSON.

1 A pioneer of Pukekohe East, Mr. Wat--1 kin Robinson, died on January 18, aged 1 77 years. He was the youngest son of ' the late Mr. Joshua Robinson, and was 1 born in Parnell. He had been connected 1 with Pukekohe East for no less than 7o years, rs his parents took up land • there in 1809. During the war with the ; Maoris in 1863 the Robinson family had temporarily to abandon their farm. At that time, when a boy of 12, Mr. Robinson, with an elder brother, was sent ; through the bush to the west to warn settlers of the approach of the hostile Maoris. When they returned to their ■ home they found that the rest of the family had left for Auckland. The boys promptly made their way through the bush and caught up with their parents at Drurv. Later, when his parents left Pukekohe East, Mr. Robinson remained there, clearing the bush to make a farm. Mr. Robinson was for a long time chairman of the school committee, was one of the original trustees of Pukekohe East public hall, and for several years was on the executive of the Franklin A. and P. Society. He also did a lot of service as teacher and superintendent of the Sunday school. Mrs. Robinson survives her husband and there are the following children: Messrs. J. W. Robinson (Pukekohe Ea<st), I. C. Robinson (Palmerston 'North), and 0. C. Robinson (Takapuna), and M iss H. Robinson (Pukekohe East). Ono son was killed in France during the 1 Great War.
