Intermediates and Juniors. — Edna Rainey Beaten in Furlong.
<By Telegraph.—Press Association.) PALMERSTON NORTH, this day. The New Zealand junior intermediate swimming championships commenced yesterday in brilliant weather. There was an excellent attendance. An official welcome \yas extended to the competitors by the Mayor, Mr. A. E. Mansford. The programme for the meeting, which continues on Saturday and Monday, includes numerous handicaps as well as championships. The New Zealand championships finalised on Friday were: — 100 Yards Girls' Junior Freestyle.—D. Symon (Southland), 1: G. Priestley (Auckland). 2; J. Mclhose (Auckland), 3. lime, 71 l-ss. 220 Yards Intermediate Girls' Freestyle—P. Sporle (Manawatu), 1; A. Morris (Canterbury), 2;' E. Rainey (Auckland), 3. Time, 3.0 2-5. Touches only between the placed swimmers. 440 Yards Intermediate Boys' Freestyle.—N. Crump (Auckland), 1: S. Jarvis (Otago), 2; W. Johnson (Auckland), 3. Time 5.26 4-5. Won by eight yards. Crump shattered his own Dominion record time, clipping off 3 4-ss. 75 Yards Junior Boys' Brcaststroke.— M. Slianaban (Auckland), 1: R. Holmes (Manawatu), 2. Time, 70 3-ss. The only starters.
