Whakapara's Kawakawa Cup.—Northland to Gold Pocket.

The Bay of Islands Racing Club held its annual meeting at Pukekolie this afternoon before a big attendance. The track is in perfect order and the racing keen. . Won Easily.

The opening event, the Maromaku Handicap, saw a field of four face the start, and Gay Blonde was installed a hot favourite, with High Crest next in demand. Gay Blonde was the first to show out from High Crest, Horotiu and Seven Seas, but.High Crest raced into the lead across the top and was out two lengths from Gay Blonde, Horotiu and Seven Seas. There was no change into the straight, where Gay Blonde put in her run, and, running away from the opposition, went on to win easily by six lengths, Horotiu being eight lengths away, third,ft and Seven Seas fourth. Outsiders in the Places. Foreign Money, Glittering, Mater and Spree failed to parade for the Kaikohe Handicap, and when the machine closed Lady Diana was first choice, with solid support for Tondaleyo, Sir Willonyx and Nicodemus, but a surprise was in store, the little-fancied Miss Rewa winning and returning over a third of a century. Lady Diana, Morehu and Ballymoney broke the tapes first, but by the time the back was reached Ballymoney had assumed command from Miss Rewa, Lady Diana, Morehu, Nicodemus and Huskie. Ballymoney still had charge turning for home, with Tondaleyo, Miss Rewa, Lady Diana and Morehu racing in close attendance. In a "Teat finish Miss Rewa gained the decision by a head from Morehu and Huskie, who dead-heated for second place. Tondaleyo was right up fourth, and then came Echo Song and Horowhenua. Favourite Wins Easily. A field of twelve lined up for the Northland Handicap, in which the defections were Roman Mascot, Hawthorn and Melody Star. W hen the final figures were adjusted the order of favouritism was Gold Pocket, Gay Broney and Royal Gallant, the P" bll ° being well on the mark. When the field had settled down along the back, favourite, Gold Pocket, had taken charge and led Arch Ruler Tin Lap, Go den Sceptre, . Pelagia and Supreme Ruler. Gold Pocket was well clear crossing the top, and led into the straight from Golden Sceptre,' Arch Kuler, Pelagia and Gay Broney. Nothin 0 ha a chance with Gold Pocket in the straight, and he went on to win easily bv three lengths from Gay Broney, who finished very fast to beat Tin Lap y one length and a half. Golden Sceptic was fourth, then followed Arch Rulei, Pelagia and Supreme Ruler.

Whakapara Wins Well. All tho acceptors for the Kawakawaj Cup fulfilled their engagement, ana Speedmint was sent out the public elec , K Alloy and Thespis earned soM support. By the time the field had. reached the stand Thespis had taken charge from Whakapara, JaUdy Karo, Flvine Prince, Speednunt and Alloy.
