BE CHEERFUL.

FARMER'S GOOD EXAMPLE

(To the Editor.) •In these times, when our dairy farmers are receiving such unremunerative prices for butter, it is remarkable, nevertheless, ihow cheerful many of them are. (Here are some extracts from a letter just to hand from a farmer in the Bay of Plenty: "My cows put up a record production for December (35001b), but the price is a killer and makes it very hard to make ends meet, even with increased production. Tell F. (my daughter) that her letter and greetings were appreciated by D. and B. (farmer's children), but, as they rise at 4 a.m. and keep going all day, by the time tea is over they are too tired for letter writing, myself included. But we are not a bit down-hearted or sick of the long hours, as wo find farming interesting, and milking time in particular is a. happy time in my shed It's great to hear them singing and chaffing one another in the early morning while city people would be well and truly asleep." Let city folk ponder over those last few lines. And there must be many farms where the same cheerful spirit is maintained. - Let us hope it will not bo long before dairy farmers get their turn of better prices again. C.C.C.
