ROUGH VOYAGE.

YACHT MOREWA. RETURN FROM NORFOLK ISLAND. SEAWORTHINESS TESTED. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) MANGONUI, this day.

The auxiliary yacht Morewa, owned and navigated by Mr. J. W. S. McArthur, of Auckland, arrived from Norfolk Island at 3 p.m. yesterday. From Cooper's Beach the little vessel could be seen far out to sea, her clean, white hull being plainly discernible, glittering in the sunshine. Hugging the coast line, she came slowly to an anchorage. Owing to an unfavourable wind the yacht's "sails were lowered about 20 miles out.

The Morewa experienced rough weather both to and from Norfolk Island, an anti-cyclone being encountered on the trip down. Three days were wasted oil the island before a landing could be made, the holiday makers being obliged to spend New Year's Eve aboard the yacht. A delightful time was later spent ashore, the visitors being hospitably received and lavishly entertained bv the islanders. . The vacht picked up Cape Maria lijit at eleven o'clock 011 Saturday night. Progress was slow at this point, a strong south-easterly wind and a large swel makiiif the conditions most uncomfoit able. "Although the weather was unfavourable. Mr. McArthur himself welcomed it. as it afforded a splendid opportunity for testing the seaworthiness of the vacht, which behaved excellently. Mrs Mc Arthur and her daughter Joy, as well*as Sir. Colin Wild, the builder, are also on board the yacht which carries a crew of-seven, including Mr. Bagnall, a New Zealawler who is returning from the island after 4J years there. The vacht, which is carrying a letter mail for Auckland, continues her voyage to Auckland via Whangaroa and other northern ports to-day. All board are well.
