- SOUTHERN CROSS , FIFTH. USUAL TIME OVER 14 HOURS. $ The trans-Taeman flight has been made g in 12 hours 12 minutesj but usually it £ occupies 14 hours. Kingsfofd Smith, on I September 10-11, 1928, made the first * crossing, from Sydney to Christchurch, 5 in 14 hours 25 minutes. The return 5 flight, on October 13-14, occupied no less * than 22 hours 51 minutes, because of '*. head winds. Kingsford Smith's second ; flight to New Zealand, on January 11, 1 1933, from Gerringong Beach to New Ply--1 mouth, was finished in 14 hours 10 £ minutes, and the return, from Ninety--2 Mile Beach to Mascot, occupied 13 hours J 9 minutes. I The second and fastest flight to Ne*v *-, Zealand was made by Mr. Guy Menziea, I alone in a small 'plane, from Sydney to ;. Harihari, oh the West Coast, in 12 hours I 12 minutes, on January 7, 1931.
