A tragic accident marred the visit to Wanganui of the monoplane Faith in Australia, which arrived from f Hawera this morning. Mr. Eon Smith, of Sydney, one of the mechanics, was turning the middle propeller slowly when the engine started unexpectedly. He was struck by a 11 blade, and sustained a severe compound lG fracture of the right arm and injuries :- to the shoulder and chest. Parkinson as a r passenger, flew the Federated Clubs' 1 Moth, ZK—ACZ, some distance south ;- of Hawera, and preceded the big machine f to the landing field. r Short addresses of welcome were - given by Dr. W. F. Buist, president of the Hawera Aero Club, Mr. H. G. Dickie, e M.P., Mr. J. E. Campbell Mayor of e Hawera, and Mr. J. B. Murdoch, chair - 1 man of the Hawera County Council. Mr. Allan congratulated the Hawera 1 Aero Club upon its enterprise in securing such a splendid site. He was pleased e that there was such a haid surface, a j feature so essential for the landing and taking off of large machines such as r would be used for commercial purposes. I The.
