BOOM IN WOOL.

WELLINGTON SALE. CATALOGUE CLEARED. NAPIER, PRICES DIMMED 1 . m (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, this day. The close of the Wellington -wool sale ■was characterised by a sustained demand for, everything catalogued. Halfbred and fine crossbred were specially sought after, while lambs continued in strong request right to the end of the sale. A line of Southdowns was sold at 26d by.Wright, Stephenson. Lots passed in were conspicuous by their absence; in fact it may be said that a total clearance of the catalogue was effected.. Brokers are not only gratified but surprised by the results of the sale, and growers whose wools were included in the catalogue had every reason to be so, too. The general public attended the sale in large numbers in the forenoon, tailing out somewhat towards lunch time, only to be reinforced by crowds trooping in and out during tbe dinner hour.. Prices at the Napier sale last week were sensationally high considering the low levels to which the commodity prices of raw -wool have fallen during the past three years; but the second Wellington sale, with its offering of nearly 30,500 -bales, at the outset of the proceedings showed returns for corresponding wools at fully ljd to 2d per lb above the rates ruling at Napier. Compared with the Wellington sale of December' last the advance was fully 4Jd per lb, and the demand for woo? became keener and keener as the sale proceeded. It is estimated by several brokers that the average price of wool sold at this gale will work out to approximately £20 a bale, compared with £14 14/1 for the December sale. On this basis the total gross realisation for the sale will be about £600,000, compared with £415,596 for the December sa«e, and only £188,743 for the January sale of 1933. Thus the total realisation for the two Wellington sales of this season will be, roughly, £1,000,000, comparea wrili £702,295 for the five sales of last season. THE RANGE OF PRICES.
