RACE BETTING.

I I cannot see why the public want the old system back again, for at any time you go to the races to back a winner, under the old 'system you get a smaller dividend for first, with a third of that for second. I am only a small better, but at the recent carnival liad I kept to place betting I would have shown a ' o >od profit instead of about "evens," and I think tfiis would apply to anybody who is any sort of a judge. As an instance, at Ellerslie 30 horses paid over a £3 dividend for a place. To my mind, the system down South is the best—7o-20-10 per cent for pla-ces; then it depends on your luck or judgment how much you get back. T also think the club that first introduces a 5/ "tote" for a win will have a record gate and "tote" returns. A TSAOE ENTHUSIAST.
