When we run we need a quick renewal of oxygen in our blood, as we are using it up rapidly. Consequently we have to breathe quickly, and this we do especially by means of the great breathing muscle, the diaphragm. This muscle, though, strong, is delicate a* points where it is attached to the six lower ribs on each side of the body. "StitcU is "due to the straining of the mente of the diaphragm to the ribs a .the ribs move rapidly in our quick breathing.
