POSITION OF WOOL.

ALL-ROUND FIRMNESS.

SPINNERS HOLDING BACK.

(Received 1.30 p.m.)

LONDON, January 7.

The London representative of the Australian Wool Growers' Council, Mr. W. P. Devereux, reports that the strong opening at the Sydney wool sales is reflected, in all markets on this side of the world. Quotations for tops have improved in all centres. In Bradford Merino top makers have advanced quotations in accord with the replacement tost of raw material. Spinners are largely holding back. The actual amount of new business i≤ not extensive. Fine crossbreds advanced in line with. Merinos. Increased demand is developing for mediums, and spinners are finding some difficulty in increasing quotations for yarns. Sales of tops to Germany continue to be in fair volume, and prices are very firm. Continental futures are active. Quantities for the next London sales are likely to be small.
