STERILISATION LAW.
NEGOTIATIONS IN GERMANY
LONDON, January 3.
Unofficial negotiations, according to the "Daily Telegraph" Berlin correspondent, are proceeding between Roman Catholics in Germany and a delegate from the Hitler Government in connection with the sterilisation law. If these negotiations are successful, exemption from sterilisation will be granted to all willing to enter a suitable medical institution. Already it is practically certain that the moral scruples of doctors and officials will be observed. Meanwhile, alarm has been aroused at the effect of the diffusion of the knowledge that the operation can be carried out with little difficulty and expense upon healthy persons who wish to escape the burden of parenthood.
It is feared that the law may prove its own undoing, so the newspapers in Germany are not allowed to discuss the matter, despite the concern aroused.
