HITLER REGIME.
"GERMANY HAPPIER."
CONSUL-GENERAL'S VIEW.
FIRST VISIT TO DOMINION.
"I am convinced that the Hitler regime is making for a new and a happier Germany. All the letters I have received, botli official and private, bear this out, and show that the German people have confidence in the future. The internal conditions of the country have been greatly improved. To maintain peace is one of the principles of
the Chancellor. It is his fervent hope that in a short time all suspicion and ill-feeling amongst the nations will disappear. Dining tTie few weeks I am in New Zealand I will endeavour to make as many personal contacts as possible in an endeavour to foster the mo6t friendly relationships between the two countries." This statement •was made by Dr. A. Asmis, German Consul-General for Australia, New Zealand and Samoa, who arrived by the Wanganella from Sydney this morning on his first visit to the Dominion. He was met by Mr. O. J. Thedens, founder of the German Club, and German residents of the city and suburbs. "Ever since the time of my youth I have had a wish to visit New Zealand," said Dr. Asmis. "My father intended to immigrate to your country, but cirstances prevented him, and it is only natural that I should have a wish to see the land tvhich might have been the country of my adoption."
