Rebel Troops in Revolt Near
Peking.
HEAVY CASUALTY LISTS,
PEKING, January 3.
Severe fighting has begun in the neighbourhood of Peking between Government forces and rebellious troops under General Liu Kuei-taug, who revolted at Chicheng, eastern Chahar, on Christmas Day and sacked that city. Insurgents totalling - about 5000 clashed with Government divisions at Kaoliying, 15 miles north of Peking, on New Year's Day. The engagement resulted in heavy casualties on both sides. After plundering the town- the rebels retreated to withfh the demilitarised area, into which the Government troops were prevented by the terms of the Tangku armistice from following them.
