In AnglO'Saxon a boy. was "cnafa," now "knave," or a "cniht," now "knight." This would seem to suggest that boys have always been of two kinds, and may remind readers of the instructive series of pictures labelled "The boy,- what will he_jbecome?" A girl was a noV "maiden," shortened into maid, . ■
