20,000 LETTERS.
AIR MAIL ACROSS TASMAN. FIRST OFFICIAL DISPATCH. Arrangements have been completed with the Post and Telegraph Department bv Mr. Beau Sheil, aviation officer of the Vacuum Oil Company, acting for Mr. C. T. P. Dim and the Air Mails Society of New Zealand for the first official trans-Tasman air mail, which will be carried by Mr. Ulm in the Faith in Australia, leaving New Zealand for Sydney about the end of January. Letters and packages have been carried across the Tasman by hand and per favour, but no officially accepted, signed for and sealed mailbag lias .so far crossed the Tasman by air. Special envelopes are being prepared, and will be available all over the Dominion in the course of a few days. Letters only will be carried, for the space and extra loading available _ on the Faith in Australia is only sufficient for about 400 pounds of letter mail, say 20,000 letters. Mr. Ulm will take off either from Blenheim or New Plymouth shortly after January 20, depending upon arrangements which will be made during his visit to Wellington, and also, of course, ujwii weather conditions.
