ROWING.

WEST END JUBILEE. REGATTA AT PINE ISLAND. Beautiful weather contributed to the allround success of the West End Rowing Club's jubilee regatta, which was held at Pine Island yesterday, when well over a thousand picnickers travelled by steamer and launch to celebrate the occasion. The regatta events wtre well contested, and a [feature of the programme was a junior eights inter-club race, contested by three clubs and won by the West End crew by a canvas from Hamilton. Results :— Youth' Fours. 1 mile.—Hamilton (L. Skeet. L. Pardington. K. Williams. W. Bnrreil), 1; West End (L. T. Lambie. E. Rockel. T. Brydon, L. Fearon), 2: Auckland (R. Hewlett, R. L. Church, K. Bowker, E. B. Lowe). 3. Also started: North Shore. After being last away Hamilton was well in command opposite the air base, and, rowing a long, easy stroke, the crew won easily from West End by six lengths. Auckland was four lengths farther back, with North Shore close up. Junior Pair-oar. distance 1J miles.—Waltemata (R. B. Smith, G. W. Ross). 1; Hamilton (F. Remitis, G. Taylor), 2; West End (51. H. D. Conway, A. D. Dalton), 3. The only starters. Waitemata led throughout and never looked like being defeated. At the finish it had about six lengths to spare from Hamilton, which was a similar distance ahead of West End. Maiden Fours, distance 1 mile.—Waitemata (E .G. Ware, J. W. Reiman. P. F. Shirley. L. N. Ross), 1; Auckland (A. Mulvihill. A. Fisher. W. Baverstock, F, C. Heald), 2; St. George's (H. Tong, D. 11. Woollams. H. St. C. Brown. C. C. Hunt), 3. Also started: West End and North Shore. Waitemata and St. George's got away best. and. but for Auckland displacing St. George's, the order was unchanged throughout. It was a keen contest and in a good finish Waitemata prevailed by a canvas.

Junior Fours, 11 miles. —Hamilton (R. T. Hurrell, W. Tombs. J. Flynn. J. J. Clough), 1; St. George's (J. R. H. Biss, G. M. Brown. W. L. Carr. G. H. Biss), 2; W.est. End (J. H. Donovan.-C. Dunster, F. G. Bowling. N. W. Jprrome). 3. Fortified by a win over Hamilton and St. George's at Tauranga, West End was fairly confident of success in this event. A complete reversal of form, however, was revealed, and the unlucky crew on the day was St. George's, whose coxswain steered a very erratic course, only to see his crew, rowing a perfect stroke, defeated by two lengths. A good start was effected in this race, the lively St George's crew making an early break. V Hamilton, however, was leading at the air base, with St. George's rowing in great style half a length behind. In a good finish Hamilton won by two lengths from St. George's, which was two lengths and a half ahead of West End.

Maiden Pair Oar, 1 mile.—Hamilton (S. M. Penberthy, M. Taylor), 1; Waitemata (E. G. Ware, L. N. Ross), 2; West End (Orsulich E. Rockel), 3. The only starters. Waitemata and Hamilton were first away, and a great duel ensued over the whole distance, Hamilton scoring narrowly, while West End, rowing on gamely, finished third.

Brydon. J. Jones, D. Fearon). 3. The only starters. Hamilton's No. 2 boat lost an oar at the commencement, but the crew had no chance against the lively West End No. 1 crew, which led throughout, and won by about four lengths.

Junior Eight-oar, 1J miles, West End Cup.—West End (M. H. D. Conway. J. H. Dovovan, A. D. Dalton, F. G. Bowling, C. Dunster, R. B. Witten, J. J. Poland, N. W. Jerrome), 1 ; Hamilton (R. T. Hurrell.
