THEATRE FROCKS.

"THE ARCADIANS."

Colourful and harmonious were the frocks used in the production of "The Arcadians," which opened the season of the J. C. Williamson new Comic Opera Company at His Majesty's Theatre on Saturday evening. The racecourse scene was a parade of the latest modern models, perfectly cut and having the latest accessories in the form of coloured milled gloves, frills, floral corsages, parasols, and minor details to complete a perfect ensemble. Miss Romola Hansen, as Sombra, the Arcadian, wears for the first act a pale primrose satin, a latticsd border of gold lame ribbons threading the .Grecian robe; weaved round the head and through the long plaits of hair were wreaths of daisies.

Her second frock was in a delightful .tone of lilac crepc faille, banded with, silver ribbon; a trail of green leaves and duster of grapes'formed the headdress. The chorus of Arcadian maidens wore Grecian frocks in pale shades, and gorgeous trails of deep red roses over their shoulders made an attractive and striking colour scheme. Eileen Cavanagh, played by Miss Lois Green, was a dainty figure in. both her frocks. The first gown was of shell pink georgette, made on slender lines, with flowing flared hem frill. Small puff sleeves were accompanied by blue frilled wrist gloves, a gay little blue French muslin hat, and sunshade to tone. The second frock was of daffodil flat crepe, the bodice having an open Vanflyk pattern worked in diamante. A short coat featured sleeves made of several frills. Mrs. Smith, played by Mi3s Marie La Varre, was most effectively striking on her first entrance in a frock of forest green satin, the skirt being inset with ruffles of prjmrosp net;. The bpflice was trimmed with shaded green ostrjcli feather, and the large picture hat had high clusters of the same feathers. A green sunshade completed the outfit. Her second frock was of opalesque blue satin faille, with wired cape sleeves of blue, scarlet and green, bordered with ostrich feather trimming. The modern frocks of flowered chiffon,, in all shades, with picture hats, deserve special mention. The contrast of a black taffeta gown, with plaid silk inset for yoke and sleeves, and a fuchsia sjlk, made a variety of colour that was a feast to the eye. Among .those in the audience- noticed were: Mesdames Alex Donald, Biernacki, V. Gibson, Shrubsall, J. O'Loglilen, C. Phillips, G. Martin, J. Macky, B. Todd, L. Webster,' Boyd, M. Alexander,' S.
