i Otago's Second Innings Against Canterbury. —- Cavanagh Scores Well. With a lead of 136 on the first innings. Otago (41 for ' none) continued their second innings in fine weather, Knight (23) and Cavanagh (17) facing Croinb and Hope. Fielding mistakes by Canterbury and enterprising tactics between the wickets brought the runs on. With the score at 02 Knight .reached forward ' to a ball from Cronib and was given out leg before. 01—1—32. Talbot opened confidently with a single off Croinb, and he went to double figures a few overs later. Cavanagh, who had been batting soundly, reached 40 when he drove Riley to the boundary The hundred came up in 85 minutes, Talbot gliding Hope to the fine leg boundary. Cavanagh passed 50 and hooked Lester for a glorious .six to the embankment. He scored six more runs, and then pulled Riley to aiid-on, where Lester took a good catch. 130—2—02. Lester knocked Talbot's leg pin before there was an addition to the score. 130—3—27. ' Badcoek succeeded Talbot, and had scored three when he was stumped by Burns off Riley. Elmee had scored a pair when he was caught by Smith at inid-on off Riley. 139—5—2. Riley had taken three for 27. Moloney and Uttley carried on, and at. 12.15 the score was 142 for five. Moloney and Uttley carried on steadily but took no risks. Uttley worked Riley to leg for a pair and a three. Then Hope came on again in Lester's place. Uttley reached double figures with three past mid-off at Hope's expense. In Riley'e next over Cromb dropped Uttley in the slips. It was slow cricket to watch for the next half hour. Riley troubled I. both batsmen with his s-pin* deliveries. I At lunch the score was 102 for five. j
